On May 21st, 2011 a piece of steel from the World Trade Center was transported from Kittery to Freeport Maine by the Maine Army National Guard in a wonderful convoy organized and lead by John O'Leary of the Maine Patriot Guard Riders including Police, Fire and Rescue and motorcyclists from many veterans groups. All along the route people gathered to show their support. On arrival in Freeport they were welcomed by the Cumberland Country Sheriff's Color Guard, the Public Safety Pipe & Drum Corp and a crowd of well- wishers. There was a ceremony with MC John Jenkins, a moving speech by Maine's Senior Senator Olympia Snowe and the appearance of retired NYFD LT Mickey Kross and Mason Paul Lowe.
The Freeport Flag Ladies, in conjunction with the Freeport Masons and the Freeport 9-11 Memorial Committee made this day possible.
